Pardew v Gutierrez - The Battle Continues!

Last updated : 21 November 2014 By Footy Mad - Editor

Gutierrez has been given the all-clear after treatment for testicular cancer in his native Argentina and will be returning to Tyneside to train.

The 31-year-old – who has been training with San Lorenzo – said he would “never forgive” Pardew for telling him to look for a new club last December less than a month after undergoing surgery.

Alan Pardew (talking to the Gazette): “It was a pure football decision, and those are decisions that have to be made.

“We’ve supported him and tried to do what we can when his illness was made known to us, before it was known publicly.

“What he has done is absolutely marvellous, to recover like he has. I believe he’s picking up an award.

“We’re very proud of what he’s done. He needs to rest assured it was purely a football decision.

“It’s difficult when you’ve said to a player to get a new club, and unfortunately the illness has come.

“You try to be supportive, but, of course, the player wants to find a bit more assurance than that.

“But that decision was a 100 per cent football decision. I want to invite Jonas back and give him the best possible chance when he returns.”
