The club believe that the Chronicle's coverage of the the Mike Ashley protest before the game with Liverpool was too harsh.
And subsequently, Pardew was gagged by his Press officer in front of the national media after the painful reverse on Wearside as he lost his second successive derby.
We understand Pardew was shocked to see banners at the protest proclaiming he was Ashley's "Patsy" and a "Liar!", something I'm sure he will have to live with.
No, not THAT Patsy!
However, Pardew did say to the rest of the Press pack: "We had two or three good chances at 1-1.
"If we'd taken one it could have been different.
"Unfortunately we didn't get it.
"They had one chance in the second half and smashed it in."
Pardew was then asked questions by both the Journal and Chronicle but before answering the questions was stopped by club Press officer Wendy Taylor who said: "Sorry you can't ask any questions."
Pardew was then asked by the national media why he wouldn't answer questions but did not respond.
He did go on to say: "I feel really disappointed for our fans.
"And for the team, they didn't deserve that.
"They deserved to win."
Pardew was then asked again by the Chronicle to answer a question but was stopped for a second time by the club's Press officer.
It is understood that the decision to ban the Chronicle and sister titles was made collectively by Alan Pardew, Joe Kinnear, Lee Charnley, John Irving and Mike Ashley.
