Owen Still Won't Commit To Newcastle

The Toon striker has listened to Allardyce's plans for Newcastle, but is still stopping short of confirmation that he will be at the club next season.

That £9m release clause in his contract has the rumour mill working overtime, and clubs are queuing up to pick up the Bargain Of The Season.

Let's not forget, United paid £17m for him and many Newcastle supporters still cannot believe why Freddy Shepherd allowed Owen to get away with that clause. It wasn't as though the Premiership clubs were bursting a gut to sign him. It was choice between Wigan or Newcastle.

His favourite - Liverpool - only valued him at £9m, which is why that £9m clause was put in, with him hoping the Scousers would have a rethink.

Owen: "Now that I am back from injury, I wish the season did not stop next week," wrote Owen in his column for The Times.  I feel strong and I've had a good chat with Sam Allardyce about his plans for Newcastle.

"He came to the England team hotel last week to have a chat with me and Kieron Dyer. He is obviously going to shake the place up.

"He sounded very thorough, talking about everything from dietary advice to injury prevention as well as improving results.

"We are planning to meet again when he returns from holiday."
