Owen On The Move? Eriksson Looking For A Striker!

Yes Owen has said he has "not made waves" or suggested he wanted to leave Newcastle.

But he also said no new contract had been offered by the Magpies, and he was in no mood to ask for one.

In other words, an interview about nothing.

He walked out and the reporters still didn't have an answer to the question "are you staying at Newcastle or will you listen to offers?"

Sven-Goran Eriksson claims he is not worried by the lack of goals scored by his forwards, but admits he could bring in more firepower.

Eriksson's side head for Portsmouth on Sunday just two points off the top of the Barclays Premier League after a superb start to the season.

Yet City have so far relied heavily on midfielders for their goals with Brazilian Elano particularly impressive, scoring four in the league.

Eriksson has Rolando Bianchi, Emile Mpenza, Georgios Samaras and Darius Vassell, yet the quartet have managed just six between them in all competitions.

Eriksson: "I am not worried, I am very happy with where we are in the table and I think we have been doing very well - not always, but altogether we have done very well.

"Of course I know we are not scoring enough goals to compete at the highest level in the Premier League but we are working on it and then we have January if we think we need it.

"I just said if we need something in January there is money available.

"We can always improve. Defending, attacking, goalscoring - you can improve everything."

Eriksson has already admitted he is a huge fan of Owen, and the rumour in Manchester is that the Swede will make his move in his bid to take City into the Champions League.
