Owen: 'Don't Get Carried Away - It's Only One Win!'

Owen was injured when he picked up a thigh injury on July 20 at the club's Benton training ground, and we hadn't seen him since the friendly at Hartlepool on July 17.

But suddenly the foot injury to his fellow England striker Wayne Rooney has pushed Owen back into the international limelight.

England face Germany on August 22 before two crucial Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel on September 8 and Russia four days later.

Owen: "It was only a small injury and everything is fine. The injury was just a little nick in my thigh and it came after a long day of running and everything else.

"You always get excited in pre-season and start smacking balls everywhere, and I probably just hit one ball too many and felt my muscle get tired.

"The next day I felt a little bit sore and it was very frustrating. But I am available for Aston Villa.

"Saturday was a great result because Bolton is always a difficult place to go, and to get that result on the first day is great. Hopefully we can go on and get a few more points.

"We put in a very good performance, especially in the first half, and got a great result.

"Everybody is buzzing from the first game and we are right up for it. There is a bit of history between the staff so it was lovely to get a win there.

"The injury was frustrating, but I got all the running in and just missed all of the football work and tactical work, so I don't feel I have missed much in terms of fitness and strength work.

"I have been working hard in the gym as ever and it was frustrating because I wanted to play in the first game of the season at Bolton.

"I am pleased that we took the decision not to play, as after last season we didn't want to risk it, but I am also pleased that I have only missed one game.

"I was hoping to be available for Bolton and did train Thursday and Friday last week.

"I have been in training for five or six days now and it is up to the manager. I will train this week and hopefully be available for Saturday.

"We are talking about winning just one game, we can't get carried away and say we are going to the win the league or anything like that. Let's take it step by step."
