They've all been drummed out of Toon - Kenny Dalglish, Sir Bobby, Graeme Souness and Glenn Roeder - but only Kevin Keegan and Ruud Gullit put pride before money.

Keegan and Gullit "called it a day" and snubbed the pay off, but you won't see that from Big Sam.

The current Newcastle boss remains in defiant mood as he prepares his shell-shocked players for what could be their toughest game of the season.

The Magpies entertain Premier League leaders Arsenal on Wednesday evening having collected just one point from the last 15 available and lost heavily to both Portsmouth and Liverpool in their most recent outings at St James' Park.

Allardyce: "It is very difficult for us all. We are not sitting here not accepting our responsibility, we are.

"We are in the business for results. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is winning games of football.

"You want to wins games of football and entertain, but the bottom line is all about winning.

"I watched Tottenham play Birmingham off the park and did it make any difference? No, it didn't, did it?

"They lost another game of football and it doesn't matter how well they played, how much they dominated Birmingham, how many more passes they had.

"At the end of the day, we are all in the winning game and the results game, and that is what we have got to get back to, we all know that."
