The younster was drafted in ahead of Michael Chopra on Saturday to link up just behind Shola Ameobi in a makeshift formation that had more than N'Zogba wishing for a Shearer/Owen return.
In the end the Premiership champions strolled to a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge, although United did give them a fright in the first half.
N'Zogbia: "It was a very tough game for us, especially without our two main strikers. Shola (Ameobi) had to play on his own up front, and it was up to us to help him from midfield.
"Usually my job as a wide player is to provide the service for the strikers, but with just one up front we had to do things differently at Chelsea. At half time we felt we had done well. We had frustrated them, and we made it hard for them to play football.
"Our plan at half time was to keep that going in the second half and not let them play. We tried to make it frustrating for them. But they scored a goal early in the second half, and then a second goal shortly after that probably killed the game off for us. We tried to keep going to get back into the game, but they are a good side and we didn't create much."
