After falling out with the coach, is was no-go for an international call up. However he says he is definitely available for selection for the Peru squad as they get set for the Copa America 2007 in Venezuela.

Peru coach Julio Cesar Uribe has shown no interest in the Toon player, as midfielder or full-back. And it is ironic how he first played at full-back (a position he has been superb this season at St James' Park) in the international team. A position that he failed to deliver and was dropped and stripped of the captaincy.

At the time he said "I was played out of position for Peru ... I am NOT a defender".

Solano: "I am not going to hang a placard on my neck and I am not going to go down on one knee asking for a recall. I want to make it clear that I have never said that I don't want to play for the national team again.

"I notice that the current coach Julio Cesar Uribe doesn't count on me because I have to report to Newcastle. But I don't know what is going to happen."
