Gillingham are searching for their third manager of 2017 following the departure of Ady Pennock who lasted only 32 matches in the dugout after replacing Justin Edinburgh back in January.

Image result for Nolberto Solano NewcastleThe Gills recorded only six wins under Pennock, and just the one victory in nine League One games this season, leaving the struggling club 22nd in the table.

Few would have expected Nolberto Solano to be leading the betting at this early stage in proceedings, but this has proved to be the case, with the former Newcastle star a best-priced 4/1 to return to England with Gillingham.

Solano famously had two spells at Newcastle, while he also sported the shirt of Aston Villa, West Ham, Leicester, Hull, before hanging up his boots with Hartlepool in 2012.

The Premier League’s first Peruvian player has gone on to have three spells in the managerial arena with homeland sides Universitario de Deportes and Jose Galves, while his last spell came in 2014 with Internacional de Toronto - a Canadian semi-professional team.

But could the 42-year-old, who is currently working as a coach for Peru’s national team, now be set to venture over to these shores with League One outfit Gillingham?

Only time will tell, but this is definitely one to keep an eye on with Kent Online reporting that he could link up with Ian Hendon.

Other names in the frame include Peter Taylor (6/1), the club’s director of football, Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth, Micky Adams, and Owen Coyle who are all hovering around the 10/1 mark, while Nigel Adkins (8/1) also finds himself in the frame.
