No punishment for Gerrard

Despite press reports claiming that the FA were planning to launch an investigation (and then presumably hand Gerrard a ban in about seven months time), officials have confirmed that the incident was seen by referee Graham Poll at the time.

Unfortunately that means that the FA cannot take any retrospective disciplinary action, however much Gerrard’s characteristic lunge may or may not merit it.

You have to wonder why famous non-Spurs supporter Poll didn’t take any action at the time, if he saw the incident clearly.

However, on a non-United related note, the FA are planning to hammer Arsenal’s Ashley Cole after his dismissal against Leicester, and that can only be a good thing.
