No Manager - Toon To Miss Out On Central Defender?

The one thing about the position we are in, having no manager, at least we can look at reports such as this one today concerning Marco Zoro and say ... "what a load of utter bollocks!"

Obviously this report saying "Newcastle United are being linked with Messina defender Marco Zoro" has been plucked out of the air.

Back in England, Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is ready to launch a new bid to sign Manchester City rebel Sylvain Distin, the central defender who left St James' Park because he didn't like being played at left-back.

There was, however, more to the story. City offered him £5,000 per week more than Newcastle were prepared to, and the deal was struck.

Redknapp believes Distin, who is out of contract at the end of the season, will be one of the best free transfers of the summer.

Redknapp: "I like him. He's a good player, a great free transfer for someone. But I think he's got plenty of offers on the table.

"He is big, strong and quick - one of the best free transfers in the country this summer, a top player."
