No Love Lost Between Taylor And Wigan

Last updated : 24 October 2011 By Footy Mad - Editor

RTTaylor used to be a real thorn in United’s side, netting four goals in four Premier League matches and putting in some top performances in Wigan colours against the Magpies during his stint at the DW Stadium.

Taylor is not the best defender at Newcastle, and some could argue Pardew has kept new £4.8m signing Davide Santon on the bench because of the threat Ryan poses with free-kicks.

The Scouser has only found the net once in the Premiership this season, despite playing in all eight games, but it was the 'GOALden Goal' of the season.

The one that broke Mackem hearts on Wearside.

Ryan Taylor: “John Carver, Steve Stone and I will stay out there quite a while working on free-kicks.

“They give me the keepers’ strengths and weaknesses and where to put free-kicks.

“You have to practice these things if you want them to come off on game day.

“There’s nothing that would give me greater pleasure than sticking one in for the home fans tomorrow.

“It would be nice to balance it up a bit – but I don’t think I can score four in one game! One would do to go with a win – it’s not about me scoring, but it would be nice.

“It’s just weird the way that happened.

“There aren’t many who can say that, it was so weird, it was all down to Shay Given letting them in!

“But it would be nice to get that slate clean with the whole four in four thing and reverse it.

“I can only do that by scoring tomorrow to start with, if selected and it would be nice to do it at the DW too.

“When there is anything that comes around the box or there are any free-kicks, people are screaming ‘shoot’!”

“I now know exactly what that goal against Sunderland meant. It’s all coming together nicely.”

"Magpies In Europe" is available NOW! It features match reports and individual features from Toon fans on the 60 'away' trips Newcastle have made in Europe. Sports Journalist Richie Everson: "At last a book that the fabulous Newcastle United fans can relate to. It's informative, all the facts and figures are there, plus the 120 match reports from all the fixtures ... but it is the articles by the supporters that amazed me. "I went to many of those games, and this is the only book I can honestly say 'hits the nail on the head'! "Yes we know the results and the scorers, but some of the facts in this book had me so wrapped up in it I couldn't put it down. "Was Benny Arentoft cup-tied when he played in the final? Big Wyn and his battle with John McGrath; McFaul scoring a penalty when the crowd had gone home; the trouble in Palermo; it is all amazing stuff. "I would honestly give this book 10 out of 10." The book is available NOW from THE BACK PAGE!
