The alleged incident occurred after the 1-0 victory over Sunderland in April, but Northumbria Police and the Crown Prosecution Service have decided that there is no evidence to support the girl’s claims, and all five suspects have been told they will face no charges.
It is good to know that at least one set of allegations against one of our players is entirely fictitious.
Unfortunately it still leaves several others under suspicion for separate offences and it is still a very real possibility that Craig Bellamy’s upcoming court appearance could turn out to be one of the turning points of the season.
