*Laurent Robert has been quick to praise Souness for his "man to man" approach, despite being left out of the clash at Southampton. The Frenchman, who won the 'goal of the season' at the North East Sports Awards, is happy to wait for his chance, hoping it will be on Saturday at home to West Brom. "I didn't mind being left on the bench at Southampton because I understood it was for the good of the team." he said.

*Welshman Craig Bellamy is adamant that his best position is upfront, but has made it clear that he will play out of position to do a job. This stance has been echoed by teammate Jermaine Jenas, who has said he will play anywhere for Souness.

*Patrick Kluivert has been given a vote of confidence by his new boss. "My attitude is that they are young men and they have to have a time to relax", said the Scot. "There is also a time to work hard and since I have been here Patrick Kluivert could not have worked any harder."

*The legend, Sir Bobby is being linked with, yes, the Real Madrid job.

*Robbie Elliott and Jamie McClen have been removed from the transfer list after over a year. Both have less than a year remaining on their current contracts.

*Ronnie Johnsen has vowed to be fit again in two weeks: "I am training twice a day, first with the first team in the morning and then with fitness coach Paul Winsper in the afternoon. I'm hoping to attain full match fitness within the next fortnight and that's what I'm concentrating on."

*Newcastle will play Norwich City at St. James' Park in the 3rd round of the Carling Cup.

*Coach Terry Gennoe will not be joining Newcastle.
