Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live's 606, former Premier League defender Frank Sinclair has claimed Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle reminds him of Ian Wright.

Gayle has been in superb form so far this season for Newcastle after joining from Crystal Palace in the summer.

He currently has 13 goals to his name in the league after scoring a brace in the 2-0 win over Leeds United on Sunday.

His performances have earned rave reviews, with Magpies boss Rafa Benitez looking like he has pulled off one of the signings of the season.

Sinclair has certainly been impressed by what he has seen, likening Gayle to the legendary Arsenal and England forward.

“He reminds me of Ian Wright. He’s an absolute pest. If you get the ball to him he’ll put the ball in the net,” Sinclair told BBC Radio 5 Live 606.

“He didn’t get the opportunity at Palace but he’s been given the number nine shirt at Newcastle and he’ll continue to score goals for them.”

“Given the opportunity he would have scored goals for Palace this season but if Newcastle continue to play like this, he’ll score goals in the Premier League for them next season as well,” he added.

This book is a collection of the 100 Greatest Newcastle United players of all time, as voted for by NewcastleUtd-Mad.co.uk readers and a panel of journalists who contribute to the website.

The players are in an order of five-per-chapter, counting down from 100 to Newcastle United's greatest ever player (as viewed by the author), but the whole point of the book is for You (the reader) to decide who goes where.

The list is not, by any means, definitive. As with all books of this nature, whether it be "Greatest Albums"; "Best Movies Of All Time"; or "Top 100 Pin-Ups Of The Year" . . . no two people have exactly the same opinion.

There will be controversy over who is on the list, and chances are, more controversy over who is not.

Here are the best of the best. I have painted the picture with each player's profile. Where they end up in the league of Nufc's Greatest is up to you.

Because You have the final word.
