Smith hasn't gone that far, but he's happy to play anywhere Sam Allardyce has a vacancy.

Smith's 100% record went on Monday night when he was suspended for picking up five bookings this season.

Smith: "That Everton game was the first time I had played up front since the first half against Sampdoria.

"I enjoyed every minute of it, but I'm a team player and if the gaffer asks me to play somewhere, I'll play there.

"As long as you give 100% he'll always be behind you.

"I should have opened my goal account for Newcastle against Everton. I should have shot - I tried to roll it over.

"That's part of my game. I play my heart out for the team week-in, week-out, and managers appreciate that, and so do the rest of the players.

"We've got to put in performances like Spurs week-in, week-out. Football fans are the same everywhere you go - they want passion, commitment and success.

"We've done well. We've progressed since the first game. You can see a difference in the performance - the commitment and passion is there.

"The quality's been lacking at times, but now we're starting to play well."
