Manchester United have six players in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year - but there is no place for England striker Wayne Rooney.

Welshman Ryan Giggs, named the player of the year by his fellow professional at the annual awards on Sunday night, is among the United stars in the team.

Rooney's England team-mate Rio Ferdinand makes the team along with fellow United players Edwin van der Sar, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Cristiano Ronaldo.

United's dominance of the team is a reflection of their season as they bid to retain both the Premier League and Champions League titles.

England midfielder Steven Gerrard and Spain's Fernando Torres, regarded by many as the top striker in world football, are both included.
Glen Johnson's reward for standing out in a difficult season for struggling Portsmouth sees him voted in.

Premier League team of the year: Edwin Van der Sar (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), Nemanja Vidic (Man Utd), Patrice Evra (Man Utd), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Ryan Giggs (Man Utd), Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd), Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea), Fernando Torres (Liverpool).
