Newcastle Confirm - No Wage Cut For Barton!

Although Mike Ashley wanted to draw a compromise with Joey Barton - a deal along the lines of "we keep you if you take a wage cut" - the midfielder will continue his career at St James' Park on full money.
Joey Barton's hopes that he was going to get straight back into training after his release from jail on Monday were dashed when he was summoned to a meeting with United's top brass of Keegan, managing director Derek Llambias, his own agent Willie McKay and football secretary Lee Charnley.

The player will resume training again today - while most of the first team squad is in Majorca.

Nike have terminated their £40,000-a-year contract with Barton.
