New Woodgate bid widely reported

The new bid (variously reported as being £8million or £10million) is reportedly planned after the Leeds Sporting plc board contacted Freddy Shepherd to say that the player was for sale following the collapse of Robbie Fowler’s move to Man City.

One report claims that Leeds’ financiers are keen to raise as much money as possible during the transfer window in order to help clear the club’s debts. So the sale of Seth Johnson to Middlesbrough for £4million and a £5million down payment from Newcastle on Woodgate is the minimum that they are looking for.

One clue that the stories may be true is that Terry Venables has apparently made a bid for Arsenal centre back Matthew Upson.
