The man in question is Marseille’s Belgian international centre half Daniel van Buyten.

The 6ft 5in defender played in all of Belguim’s World Cup games after joining the French club for £7.7million in 2001.

He has previously played for Standard Liege and Charleroi and has variously been described as the second Jaap Stam and a better version of Philippe Albert.

The 24-year-old is believed to be available for around £8million.
