The Sunday Sun, picking up on an article from NUFC.com, claims that the new shirt sponsor will be Gosforth based bank Northern Rock.
"I can confirm that we are in negotiations with Newcastle United on this issue but nothing has been agreed as of yet," a Northern Rock spokesperson told the paper.
The current deal with NTL still has another season to run, but the cash strapped telecommunications giant is auctioning the rights off in a bid to raise some money.
It’ll be good to see a local company's logo back on the shirt, but it’s a shame it won’t be the famous blue star.
