More out of context comments

Following the 2-2 draw with his club Bayern Munich the England midfielder was asked whether or not he would ever move to the Premiership and if he did would he consider Newcastle.

Given that the conversation was taking place at St James’ Park Hargreaves could hardly say that he we were the last club he’d ever think of joining, and Sven-Goran Eriksson wouldn’t have been pleased to hear him say he didn’t rate English football.

So he gave the following polite and non-committal answer.

"I'm happy to play for a great club like Bayern Munich, of course, but one day, definitely - I don't know when - I want to play in England. Perhaps for Newcastle, who knows?

"The club has a wonderful team at the moment. They are really going places. As far as English football is concerned, Newcastle seems the place to be.

“Newcastle have good players and a good team. I played with Shola Ameobi with the Under-21s and he's a real talent. No more needs to be said about Alan Shearer and Craig Bellamy is a real bright spark."

Now much of what he said may be true, but it is sad that journalists can find nothing better to do than to turn those innocent remarks into ‘Hargreaves wants Newcastle move’ headlines.
