Newcastle fans could well be in for a huge boost with the news coming from the Telegraph that Mike Ashley is in fact looking to sell the club – and is just waiting for their fate to be confirmed in terms of their Premier League future.

“Telegraph Sport understands that there has been tentative interest from at least two new parties in the last few weeks, but everything remains on hold until both sides know which division Newcastle will be playing in next season.

Encouragingly for supporters who are still desperate to see a change of direction in the boardroom, the promise of wider interest in a club desperately in need of more ambitious leadership means it is more likely Ashley will be able to sell before the summer transfer window opens.”

The sale could well see manager Rafa Benitez decide to stay at the club – something that the majority of the fans would love, with the former Liverpool manager a favourite and someone who has worked well given the constraints Mike Ashley has put upon him in terms of budget.

A new deal for Benitez could come at the end of the season, and isn’t contingent on the sale, yet given the relationship between manager and owner is not thought to be the best at times, it would be a positive for Benitez should a sale go through and owners who are willing to spend the money the club needs come in.
