Moncur Wants Hughton To Be Given A Chance!

Moncur: "I don't think there is a real rush for a manager.

"If I was Mike Ashley at the moment, I would leave it to Chris Hughton for now.

"I wouldn't panic. If you do you could get the wrong guy again and there could be even more casualties.

"Chris is an experienced guy and he has been around.

"He's perfectly capable of running the side at the minute.

"There is no doubt Michael Owen, Nicky Butt and Shay Given will have a big influence.

"Any manager or coach worth his salt listens to his senior players.

"They won't always do what they tell you, but at least you can consult them.

"Chris Hughton will be doing that. People like Shay, Michael and Nicky have a big part to play.

"It has happened in the past when Alan was around with Glenn Roeder and we would all love to see a caretaker and the players really lift things again.

"I think that Mike (Ashley) was taken aback by just how passionate the Newcastle fans are when Kevin Keegan left.

"I suspect his reasons for selling are that he didn't realise just how big a job this was when he took it on.

"Obviously, there were debts that it appears he didn't know about.

"He's paid those off and the club is still struggling and still losing money.

"As a businessman, he has tried to get it on an even keel.

"Now it is a better buy for somebody - if the price is right - than it was before Mike came in.

"He has got rid of some of the debt and the problems.

"It's now a case of finding somebody to buy it.

"We know he has been out in Dubai, looking for a buyer.

"But I think he will be willing to sell if the price is right.

"I don't think it will be that long because he will want to get out of here."
