Moncur Says Toon Should Not Rush Decision!

Bob Moncur: "Let's get one thing straight - Joe Kinnear is still the manager of Newcastle. And we all wish him a speedy recovery after his triple heart bypass operation last week.

"At the moment Newcastle don't have to rush to make a decision as they know that Joe must rest for at least two months.

"With Chris Hughton installed as caretaker boss and assisted by former Forest boss Colin Calderwood, there is experience at hand - even though the pair may not be deemed the long-term answer.

"In two months' time, Newcastle could be in a worse position than now and, wherever they are, for better or worse, their options will be clearer.

"It's a sensitive issue for Mike Ashley. But he will know by the end of March or the start of April how it's looking.

"He'll then have to reassess and, by that time, he will also have a better idea of which division they will be in.

"Hopefully that is the Premier League, but when you are talking about players to be signed in the summer, it's paramount that you know who is going to be the gaffer, as they will also have their own ideas over input to the first-team squad."
