The England cap was Mark Warburton’s marquee summer signing when he arrived on a free from Burnley.

Barton delayed joining up with his team-mates, missing the pre-season training camp in the USA as he worked as talkSPORT pundit at Euro 2016.

The 34-year-old’s £20,000-a-week contract started on July 1 while he was working in France and he will have coined in a whopping £280,000 in less than three months by the time his ban ends.

With a lack of match fitness, he missed the opening competitive game of the season in the Betfred Cup against Motherwell and made his debut in the second group game of the competition when he came on for the last half hour of the 2-0 Ibrox win over Annan Athletic.

Bad-boy Barton played 585 minutes for the Light Blues before he was suspended on Friday which meant he missed the scoreless draw with Ross County.

And that is less than half of the 1260 minutes the former Newcastle United and Manchester City man could have featured in by the time he is available again for the trip to Inverness Caley Thistle on Friday, October 14.

Barton’s two-year contract is worth more than £2million.
