McGhee Making His Mark At Fir Park

McGhee has made a great start north of the border, and his Motherwell side are currently hanging off the shirt-tails of Celtic and Rangers - in third place in the Scottish Premiership.

Last night they overcame Raith Rovers 3-1 in the CIS Insurance Cup second-round at Fir Park.

Always a tough tackling striker, he used to give defenders far more stick than they gave him.

Like Roy Keane over in Mackemland, I'm sure his players are very keen to please, otherwise feel the force of a size 12 up the backside.

McGhee (after the win last night): "The quality of our passing wasn't great.

"I thought our two centre-halves (Brian McLean and William Kinniburgh) at times overplayed and got themselves a bit embarrassed, but they're trying to please me so it's about getting the balance and they need to learn from being in the team.

"Four wins out of five is a great start, and I think if we'd made that the target when we were working hard in pre-season.

Two spells at Newcastle and they couldn't possibly have been so different.

He came from Morton for £150,000 and looked as though he had the skill to make it, but always failed to deliver.

He lacked strength and pace. But he went to Aberdeen and became a superstar.

Capped by Scotland, he won Scottish Championships and Scottish Cups with both Aberdeen and Celtic. As well as European Cup Winners Cup medal with Aberdeen.

Signed for Newcastle for £200,000 and hit it off with Micky Quinn straight away.
