The man NOBODY wanted (apart from Mike Ashley) reached rock bottom last night going down to a Championship side that made TEN changes to their league side.

This was a RESERVE side, and they humiliated the Magpies on their own turf!

The Owls dumped the Magpies out of the Capital One Cup with a 1-0 victory at St James' Park and in the process, booked themselves a home fourth round tie against Barclays Premier League Arsenal.

But another depressing defeat left McClaren with only three wins in his last 21 games as a manager and his current club with only four in all competitions in 2015, and gave rise to yet another chorus of boos on the final whistle.

Asked how embarrassed he was, the former England boss replied: "I've been in football too long to be embarrassed. Angry, disappointed.

"Things like that can happen in football, we said that beforehand, and yes, it's a very disappointing result and evening for everybody.

"We have said to the players, 'You can't feel sorry for yourselves. You have got to come out on Saturday and be a fighter or a victim', and it's one or the other, and we can only have fighters on there now.

"We say how far do we have to go before we turn it around, because the players are capable of doing that. We can't talk about it, we have to do it.

"There's not a lot you can say. There are no excuses - back in tomorrow morning, Chelsea Saturday, it's the fighting mentality we need."

Lewis McGugan's 76th-minute strike proved the difference between the sides on a night when the Magpies rarely looked like scoring, and the crossbar spared them further punishment twice within seconds as time ran down.

McClaren is simply living on a League Cup victory at Middlesbrough more than a decade ago, and there are players in the squad who see straight through him and don't want to play for him.

Not classed as a "manager", and I don't believe for one second he IS in control at the club, he is another puppet run by those in high places at the club.

Can he turn it round? Some say he has "lost the fans" ... he never HAD the fans in the first place!

Nobody wanted him. The supporters of his last three clubs CANNOT STAND him!

So what the hell is he doing at our club?
