The defender has recovered from the groin problem which had sidelined him since the summer.
The 19-year-old, who signed from Servette in his native Switzerland in January last year, played in last night’s friendly against Heaton Stannington, which a Newcastle XI won 8-1.
He was substituted at half-time.
Kevin Mbabu: “It’s time for me to stay fit, and I have to stay fit because it’s a big season for me.
“I hope I can push for the first-team, or maybe go on loan somewhere and get some professional experience.
“That’s what I’m hoping for.”
