And Abdoulaye Faye and Habib Beye may also be back sooner than anticipated after both Nigeria and Senegal flopped over the weekend at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria were held 0-0 by Mali at the weekend and must beat bottom side Benin in their final game tomorrow.

But they must also hope Ivory Coast beat Mali or Martins will be heading home.

Martins is not having the happiest of times in the competition, and was subbed at half-time in the last match.

He is seen as a bit of a charcter within the Nigeria camp, having made a big deal about a shooting he was supposed to have been involved in when he was allegedly filling up at a gas station when on international duty.

He described the life-threatening incident in detail, but the police reported later he was 30 miles away at his mother's house at the time of the shooting.

Beye and Faye also face elimination in the final Group D match on Thursday if they fail to beat South Africa in a crucial finale.

Geremi has the best chance of staying in Ghana after his Cameroon side triumphed 5-1 against Zambia.

Victory for the Indomitable Lions on Wednesday against Sudan is likely to secure their place in the final eight.
