Fifa have organised an exhibition game between an African XI and a World XI on July 18 to honour South Africa's first black president.

Players past and present have been asked to take part - including Pele and former United boss Ruud Gullit - and Martins is another.

The match will be staged the day after United's friendly at Hartlepool.

Martins Mystery - Nowhere Near Scene Of Shooting

Obafemi Martins's has the Nigerian police baffled by his claims he was shot at in Lagos last week. They claim he was miles away from the crime scene.

The Toon striker, who has been involved in some rather bizarre incidents of late, said he feared for his life after his Mercedes was sprayed with bullets when he was in the Nigerian capital on international duty.

The city police have now said Martins was asleep at his mother's house at the time of the attack, which left the player's friend and driver Femi Onipede injured.

Spokesman Bode Ojajuni said: "It is obvious Obafemi Martins was not in the car when the driver was shot at. The whole thing is still a puzzle, but from all indications it was not Martins who was the victim but his driver."
