sPaolo Di Canio has gone, and his stand-in (Kevin Ball) failed to get that first league win, so enter the man tipped to take over from Alan Pardew.

Gus Poyet is set to be named Sunderland boss tonight.

Poyet is expected to be paraded as Sunderland's new manager within the next 24 hours after agreeing a three-year deal at the Stadium of Shite.

The Black Cats are not expected to officially confirm the agreement tonight, but sources close to the 45-year-old claim a contract has been signed and sealed.

Poyet, the former Brighton manager, has been on the radar of Sunderland's director of football Roberto De Fanti since Martin O'Neill's sacking in March and he has landed his man.

The 45-year-old Uruguayan will now be responsible for leading Sunderland up off the foot of the Premier League after starting the season by picking up just one point from the first seven games.
