Whitehead: "It was a disappointing day all round. It's difficult to take a defeat against Newcastle.

"Everyone is gutted but we just have to forget about this now, pick ourselves up and go again next week. We've got another big game on Saturday against Middlesbrough and we're on our home patch so we've got to make that count.

"When you concede a goal early on, you're up against it. It makes it very difficult. Michael Owen scored a good goal for them but we certainly could have stopped it with better defending.

"We had a lot of possession, particularly in the second half when we started to get the ball down and pass it. Nothing broke for us in the box. If we had got a goal 10 or 15 minutes into the second half, they might have wobbled because they weren't looking too clever at 2-0, let alone if they had been just one goal up.

"We had a couple of chances and their keeper made some good saves but it just wasn't our day."
