Sunderland's version of Lee Clark (the Geordie who played for the Mackems), Waddle made 191 appearances for Newcastle (scoring 52 goals) in a great five year spell at the club.But he reminded us many times that he had an ambition to play for Sunderland ... and he achieved it late in his career.
He signed for Newcastle from Tow Law Town for a set of strips and £1,000 in 1980. Was a sausage maker who went on to play for England, and was sold to Spurs in 1985, a move that unofficially cost Jack Charlton his job.
