Harrogate magistrates heard yesterday how Sunderland midfielder Yorke had been stopped by a police anti-speeding unit on the A1 (M) at Dishforth, near Ripon, on September 25.

Magistrates rejected the defence submission, convicted Yorke and fined him £350 with £300 costs, a £15 victims' surcharge and a 14-day driving ban.
