Ajax returned to the top of Holland's Eredivisie on Sunday after thrashing Vitesse Arnhem 4-1.

The result helped the Amsterdammers leapfrog PSV Eindhoven who had claimed top spot on Saturday while FC Groningen's 3-2 win against Feyenoord prevented the Rotterdam giants from going level on points with the capital club.

Goals from Luis Suarez and Gabri and an Albert Luque penalty gave Ajax a 3-0 lead before Mads Junker pulled one back for Arnhem.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar struck again for Ajax in the second half.

At Groningen, Roy Makaay's goal had Feyenoord in front for more than an hour before a crazy last 18 minutes.

Markus Berg and Erik Nevland put Groningen ahead only for Nuri Sahin to equalise.

Berg then struck again in injury time to earn a win for Ron Jans and his men.
