Dropped by Glenn Roeder to play for the Reserves, but he responded by scoring two spectacular goals against Liverpool in midweek.

And now has been called up to play in a Catalan select team against the Basque country this weekend.

Luque, who was born in Barcelona, has not been selected for the Spanish national side in almost 12 months, but will play in the representative fixture on Sunday.

Lee Clark gave him a glowing report on Wednesday: "Albert Luque was a great example to our younger players with his two goals and he showed the right attitude on the night.

"Like all senior players he has a point to prove, and he could not have done anymore - he was fantastic".
