"London Calling" For Dyer And Parker?

Roeder has attempted to explain his decision to make Kieron Dyer captain against Reading after it drew an angry response from many supporters.

Dyer turned down the captain's arm band when Sir Bobby Robson offered it to him prior to a game against Middlesbrough, when he threw it to the ground. Something that infuriated Sir Bobby, and many of the fans have long memories.

Dyer admitted in The Journal he had not repaid his manager's faith after suggesting he was to blame for the 1-0 defeat which means United's hopes of an Intertoto Cup place are finished with two games left to play this season.

The Journal claims Dyer was initially reluctant to take on the responsibility because he feared many supporters would be unhappy with the decision, but was persuaded to take on the role by Roeder.

Scott Parker, who has also had his problems with the club's supporters this season, is another said to be looking at London this summer for a move. Something strongly denied by Roeder.

Both were again out of sorts against Blackburn on Saturday, and the supporters made their feelings felt at the apparent lack of effort.
