Owen is out of contract at Newcastle this summer after rejecting the chance to extend his deal.

But while he was happy to offer Kop hero Robbie Fowler a way out of Manchester City three years ago, the Anfield boss says there's no way back for Owen.

Benitez: "It's different for Michael than Robbie. He knew it was a fantastic opportunity for him to come back to Liverpool after being injured and not playing many games for City.

"It's different with Michael. He's still young, has years to play and is a top striker who wants to play every game."

Yep ... that's one way of dressing it up.

The fact remains his £110,000 per week wages frighten off even Liverpool!
