Barton will head to Liverpool looking for Scouse honour with Newcastle United.
Barton - who has not kicked a ball in anger since late January - was an unused substitute in Monday night's goalless draw against Portsmouth at St James's Park.

Alan Shearer: "It wasn't right to put him on Monday night, but he'll be having a full week's training this week.
"He'll have that behind him for the weekend now, and he could be involved at Anfield. It all depends on how his training goes this week.
"We didn't know how the Portsmouth game was going to shape out.
"He's not had that many training sessions but we thought if we needed him for 10 or 15 minutes at the end, he was an option, and we could have gave him a run-out."
