Liverpool Let Newcastle 'Off The Hook'

McAteer was not overly enthused by Liverpool’s performance last night. He said that the performance was a little underwhelming and feels that the Reds should have been more adventurous against a Newcastle side who were short of confidence after a dreadful run of form.

It has to be said, the Liverpool line-up said a lot about having one eye on the FA Cup semi-final this weekend, as they approached the game without a recognised striker in the attack.

I have to agree, the Reds were "half paced" for most of the match, with the early goal setting the pace of the game.

They obviously wanted the win, but with the very minimum amount of effort.

Jason McAteer: “I thought they have done okay, they played half-paced at times.

“Newcastle came in on the back of four straight defeats and the Sunderland one really hurt them; so I was expecting a lot more form them.

“I thought they were there for the taking and I was expecting Liverpool to maybe go for the jugular, play a lot quicker.”
