Krul Luck For Dutchman After Law Change

Sam Allardyce: "The loan system has changed in the Football League this year, and has now converted to the same system we have to put up with, which is only year-long loans.

"You can't do any more emergency loans, or one, two or three-month loans.

"It means if I'm going to let a player go on loan, it's effectively a short-term transfer.

"There's no call-back or recall. And the last thing I want to do is leave myself short if anything happens - we've already got to try and get more players in to cover what we need.

"And to let players go out on loan would be very difficult this year unless the squad grows to the sort of size by the end of the transfer window that I'd feel a young player would develop better by having six months or a year on loan somewhere else.

"If you run into difficulties at the end of August, there's nothing you can do about it but use the players you have within your football club.

"That's why I think the transfer window is flawed."

Four Year Toon Deal For Dutch Goalkeeper

As we reported last week, 19-year-old Dutch keeper Tim Krul was offered a new contract, and the youngster has committed himself to the club for the next four years.

Krul has only made one first team appearance, his man-of-the-match performance in the 1-0 UEFA Cup victory over Palermo in Sicily last season.

Sadly he missed much of the rest of the campaign with a knee cartilage injury, forcing Glenn Roeder to look elsewhere for cover when Shay Given was injured. That brought about the return of Pavel Srnicek on a 6 month contract.

Krul: "I signed a a four-year deal, so I think that's a very good thing for me and for the club.

"Newcastle is a massive club for me and I really want to stay there, so I hope my future's there.

"Shay [Given] is a fantastic goalkeeper, one of the best, and Steve Harper as well.

"It's a hard challenge for me, but in a couple of years, I hope I can challenge them.

"I am allowed to go on loan for next season, so we are looking for a club now. We are waiting for clubs, maybe Championship. We will have to see."
