But ... made skipper for the night ... he helped United reserves ease into the second round of the Northumberland Senior Cup with an emphatic 4-1 win.

Krul has asked for the chance to go on loan in the January transfer window, and I'm sure it would be a move for the better as this game only attracted a crowd of 200 on a wet evening when those 200 should be applauded.

Reserve team coach Richard Money did not risk any of United's fringe players, but in-form teenage striker Nile Ranger made an appearance at a rain lashed Kimberley Park.

United grabbed the lead from the spot through Geordie boy Mark Doninger who slotted home on 32 minutes after young Irishman Michael McCrudden was tripped by Chris Baxter but eight minutes later the 200 plus home crowd were in good voice as Liam Bell equalised with a cool finish.

But just before the break James Marwood headed home to make it 2-1 after McCrudden's right wing cross.

In the second half United edged even further ahead on 64 minutes when Jonny Godsmark and Marwood linked up well to set up a close range finish for McCrudden to make it 3-1.

And the game was put beyond doubt when Doninger latched on to a pass from Ranger before firing home a superb strike to complete the tie in Prudhoe with 18 minutes left.
