Kinnear Puts Williamson Future On Hold!

lThe Welsh club are still keen on the defender who is open to being reunited with his former boss Malky Mackay.

But Newcastle want to start the season with four centre-backs vying for the two available slots with Fabricio Coloccini, Steven Taylor, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Williamson all in line to do battle as it stands.

The pair worked together during Mackay's stint as Watford boss.

United pulled out of a move for departing FC Twente defender Douglas last week after Joe Kinnear was advised by the ex-manager of the Dutch club Steve McClaren that there may be better targets.

But Douglas, called up to the Holland squad last season after gaining Dutch citizenship, was available on a free transfer. The defender is thought to be deeply disappointed that his move to Tyneside did not work out.

Indeed, Dutch sources say that Douglas' flights to Newcastle were booked only for a last minute change of heart after Kinnear's meeting with Pardew in London last week.
