Dundee United boss Craig Levein and Rangers boss Walter Smith are said to be the favourites to land the job, while former Celtic and Scotland midfielder John Collins is also in the frame.

Kinnear managed India in 1984.

Joe Kinnear (pictured above in his younger days in full makeup): "When I left Tottenham I moved on abroad and my first job abroad was as manager of India.

"I was out there for two years, so I started off with an international side.

"I missed out on, I think, two occasions to be the manager of Ireland, which would always have been a dream job for me.

"I'll throw my hat in the ring. If they [Scottish FA] felt they wanted to interview me, I'd be more than happy to go along and talk."

Sadly, for Kinnear, we hear the Sweaty Socks threw his cloth cap right back at him!
