Keegan Should Be Happy Modric Went To Spurs!

The highly-rated midfielder has snubbed United to sign for Tottenham and the 22-year-old will leave Dinamo Zagreb for White Hart Lane this summer subject to his passing a medical.

Kevin Keegan: "If you had a list of the midfield players around Europe who Newcastle could possibly attract, Luka Modric would be one of them.

"I think he would be pretty much on everyone else's list as well because he is a fantastic prospect.

"If you look at the midfield players who have a fantastic future, he would be one of them. But every other club in the league, from Arsenal and Manchester United, would like Modric."

But look at the last Croatian we signed from Dinamo Zagreb ... Sylv Maric ... and what a crock of shit he was!

He signed from Zagreb in 1998 after playing well for them against Newcastle in a European match. But he slated the team and city off before signing, which made his stay very difficult.

He said the food on Tyneside was "disgusting" and the women were "ugly". Obviously he had been taking lessons from Freddy Shepherd and Douglas Hall.

The striker was always injured, and had the heart of a pea, and made only 17 starts in two seasons.

Went to play in Portugal. Played a couple of games then was injured (what a surprise) and out for 6 months. A genuine waste of space.

I'm not saying Modric is like Maric ... but being a sad, twisted, bitter old Geordie that I am ... let's hope he is!
