Keegan Says Greedy Ashley Will Pocket Dosh!

Keegan has told Pardew not to make plans for the £35 million Newcastle raised in selling Andy Carroll to Liverpool.

Kevin Keegan (on Radio Five Live): "I saw an interview with Alan Pardew where he said he hoped to get some of the £35 million and I thought 'Alan, you ain't going to get any of that'.

"I think £35million for Andy Carroll...if I'd been manager I'd have taken it.

"But how can you spend it on the last day of the transfer window?

"My big argument was that we were selling James Milner for a lot of money - probably above the value we put on him - and I said, 'Please don't sell him before we get someone in'.

"The reason I didn't want them to put that out and to hold on a little longer was so I could get a good value signing. It's business; it's a sensible way to do to do it.

"If you sell Milner for £11 million then they say, 'If he's worth £11 million, our guy must be worth £9 million.''

PLEASE VOTE: Will Pardew get the dosh?

This draw at St James' Park extended the Magpies' run to one loss in nine, but it was a two-footed challenge by Ryan Taylor that spoilt the match.

Whether he should have been sent off is open to question, but regardless, it blew our chance of three points.

Daniel Sturridge's fourth goal in as many games gave the Trotters the draw, but we should have done better and gained revenge for that 5-1 horror show earlier in the season.

Taylor was making just his fifth appearance of the season on his return from an ankle ligament injury, and obviously Alan Pardew sees more in the ex-Wigan midfielder/defender than Chris Hughton.

The Toon boss said this week he was delighted to have the player back in his squad, while Hughton usually had him on the back-burner.

Sturridge, on loan from Chelsea, caused problems from the off.

Fabricio Coloccini repeatedly needed the help of full-back Jose Enrique to keep the striker at bay, although the Spaniard had his own hands full with Elmander, who was a major threat on the wing.

But Newcastle gave as good as they got in a thrilling first half, during which play switched rapidly from end to end.

The home side took the lead with 13 minutes gone, and yet again, it was Nolan who did the trick.

Not for the first time, he demonstrated his knack of finding space inside a crowded penalty area to meet Cheick Tiote's driven cross, and his deft header was too good for Jussi Jaaskelainen.

The Finn had kept out Peter Lovenkrands' near-post flick seconds earlier, and later needed David Wheater's help to prevent Leon Best's shot ending up in the back of the net.

Best headed a Taylor free-kick just over the bar with 28 minutes gone. The former Wigan man was a late replacement for Joey Barton, who suffered an injury during the warm-up.

Only a last-ditch tackle by full-back Marcos Alonso denied Taylor seconds later - but Sturridge continued to look the man most likely to drag Bolton back into the game, and he did just that seven minutes before the break.

A rare mistake from Tiote allowed Elmander to find the striker, and he shifted the ball on to his left foot before shooting unerringly into the bottom corner.

Lovenkrands helped a Tiote effort just over the bar and Nolan bravely blocked an Elmander drive as the half drew to a close.

Jaaskelainen was back in action within three minutes of the restart after Enrique spun away from Elmander with ease before surging into the penalty area and unleashing a powerful shot.

However, Alonso fired over from 20 yards and Steve Harper had to get down well to claim Gary Cahill's deflected drive as Bolton responded.

But the momentum shifted significantly with 54 minutes gone when Taylor launched himself at Elmander and was dismissed by referee Chris Foy, who had little choice but to produce the red card.

Bolton instantly sensed an opportunity and committed more men to the search for a winner, and Coloccini and Mike Williamson found themselves firmly in the firing line as they were forced to deal with a series of dangerous crosses.

Lovenkrands dropped into the wide midfield berth vacated by Taylor to leave Best alone up front, and there was little the former Coventry man could do to help stem the tide.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew made his move with 23 minutes remaining when he sent on central defender Steven Taylor for Jonas Gutierrez and striker Nile Ranger for Lovenkrands, and went to a back three.

Ranger headed over from Taylor's 70th-minute cross, but it took a priceless goal-line clearance from Nolan to keep out Martin Petrov's effort five minutes later.

There was late drama when Jaaskelainen had to scuttle across his line to collect the ball after Paul Robinson had chested Best's cross a little too firmly towards goal.

Peter Lovenkrands and Leon Best scored the goals at St Andrew's to give Newcastle another precious three points to banish all relegation worries.

Relegation hasn`t really been a concern all season, but with the alarming slump of Blackpool ... from 5th in the table to favourites for the drop ... it will be nice to reach 40 points.

Lovenkrands opened the scoring in the second minute and then Best struck early in the second period to wrap up the points for the Magpies.

Birmingham enjoyed a fair share of possession but lacked a cutting edge as they suffered their first defeat in six games.

Newcastle had picked up only two points from three games since Carroll's £35 million departure to Liverpool on the final day of the January transfer window.

But they looked the more threatening throughout the 90 minutes with Jose Enrique surging forward from left-back to good effect. They were well marshalled in midfield from skipper Kevin Nolan and were a constant threat on the counter-attack.

Nikola Zigic, who had scored in the previous three games, posed the biggest threat for the home side.

Newcastle got off to a dream start in the rainswept conditions with Lovenkrands putting them ahead after only two minutes. Enrique's original cross was cleared after he had skipped past Sebastian Larsson but Jonas Gutierrez pounced on the loose ball and delivered a testing low centre to the near post.

Lovenkrands was first to react and he slid in front of Roger Johnson and drilled his shot past Ben Foster. It was his fourth goal of the campaign.

Blues looked shaky and more good play by Enrique found skipper Nolan inside the box but he did not extend Foster.

Former Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins showed good skill to get past Mike Williamson but Steve Harper was alert to the situation.

Birmingham were now in the ascendancy possession-wise and Johnson headed just wide from Larsson's free-kick

Then Harper did well to turn aside Zigic's shot on the turn from inside the box after good play by Barry Ferguson.

Nolan became the first player to be yellow carded for bringing down Bentley in full flight after 36 minutes.

Midfielder Craig Gardner came close to equalising five minutes before the interval. The midfielder hammered a 20-yard drive just wide after being teed up by Larsson who cut into the box before pulling the ball back.

Newcastle doubled their lead four minutes into the second half through Best's fifth goal of the campaign as Birmingham were again caught cold.

Gutierrez delivered a left-wing cross to the far post and Best got above the normally-dependable Johnson to head home.

Barton was yellow-carded for a challenge on Liam Ridgewell.

Larsson made a crucial challenge to deny Best a second goal after good play by Cheik Tiote

Magpies boss Alan Pardew brought on Nile Ranger for the limping Lovenkrands after 65 minutes.

Johnson was well wide with an acrobatic effort while at the other end Foster gathered a rising drive from Tiote.

Zigic had a great chance to reduce the arrears but headed over from Ridgewell's pinpoint cross when unmarked.

Johnson forced Harper to save his low header from Bentley's centre and substitute Kevin Phillips miskicked inside the box when well placed.

But Birmingham seldom threatened to salvage anything tangible from the game.
