Former Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan has sensationally been linked with the vacant manager’s job at Coventry City and as you can imagine, Sky Blues fans have been quick to comment on the link on social media.

The Midlands outfit have been managerless since Tony Mowbray resigned from the role two weeks ago and caretaker manager Mark Venus is the 1/8 favourite with the bookies to get the job on a full-time basis.

The club is blessed with some Newcastle United interest, with young Magpies full-back Jamie Sterry currently there on loan, while former United midfielder Gael Bigirimana plies his trade at the Ricoh Arena.

And it is through Bigirimana’s agent that the link originated. Lee Marsh - who is a long-term friend of Keegan’s - said to the Coventry Telegraph: “I’d like to bring in a big name who’s been a good mate of mine for a long time, Kevin Keegan.

“Kevin came to Coventry as a kid and got turned away because he was too small. I’ve known him for a long time, from his Liverpool days and from being out in Germany, and I am damn sure he’d be interested.

“He reignited Manchester City, he reignited Fulham from the fourth division and he reignited Newcastle United. He’s enthusiastic and hard working.”

Keegan has been out of management since 2008 and although the likelihood of Keegan returning to management in League One is slim, it hasn’t stopped City fans responding to the possibility on social media.

Twitter user, Anthony Hornsby, made reference to Keegan’s infamous rant in 1996, saying: “I would LOVE IT if Keegan became Coventry City manager, LOVE IT. #PUSB”

Meanwhile, another Twitter user @el_wordsmythio poured scorn on the rumours, saying: “‘Kevin Keegan should become the new manager of Coventry City’ is the greatest piece of sport-related humour in history.”

Elsewhere, Chris wouldn’t be as keen to see Keegan in the Coventry dugout, as he comments: “Keegan, the perennial walker-outer? No thanks.”

HAVE YOU SEEN THESE MEN?

The creepy clown epidemic that started in the US has spread to the shores of the UK after a flurry of sightings in towns across the country.

The spooky jesters have been seen in Essex, Wales, Manchester and NEWCASTLE, in some cases approaching school children in sinister masks.

We are showing two photos - do you know these men?

Sightings of creepy clowns have spread across the Atlantic from America to the shores of Britain.

Clown sightings have swept across America in recent weeks causing a hysteria that has spilled over into vigilante attacks.

Clowns gained notoriety as a creepy force thanks to Stephen King’s book It and the subsequent horror film.

In it Pennywise the clown terrorises a group of kids in small town America.

A mob of 6,000 students armed with hockey sticks and baseball bats flooded the roads around Pennsylvania State University to hunt the clowns.

Clowns have been spotted across at least seven states in America stretching from California to Georgia and up to Pennsylvania.

Yesterday Thames Valley Police revealed officers had been called to 14 incidents in less than 24 hours over the weekend — and demanded an abrupt end to the craze.

A spokesman said: “Their actions cause fear and anxiety.

“This could lead to public order offences, arrest and a criminal record. We would urge people to refrain from such activity.”

Last week clowns were spotted near a school in Clacton, Essex loitering near a black van asking girls if they wanted to “party”.

Another was also spotted strolling down the road in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, covered in "blood" at around 5:30pm yesterday.

Graham Alan Lowndes-Buckley said he couldn't believe his eyes when he spotted the petrifying pierrot.

He said: “On my way home from work on the 216 on Thursday. I get to Katherine Street and saw the guy, I had to get it on video. I didn’t believe it to be honest.

“I’ve seen the videos in the news about America and how this ‘craze’ is spreading but never expected to see it for real.

“I’m just glad it wasn’t around the time schools finish, otherwise there would have been madness.”

Another has even been spotted in the sleepy North Wales village of Caenarfon near a children's play area.

One Caernarfon man said: “It’s been the talk of the town with most people saying they’ve been scared by the sight of it.”

Police in Newcastle-upon-Tyne have also received reports of sightings of clowns, even making one arrest in connection with a "clown incident".

Insp Stephen Wykes said: "The people carrying out these pranks may think they're being funny, but it is leaving a number of young people incredibly distressed.

"Parents of the children affected, and teachers at our local schools, are understandably concerned and we are working very closely.

"There has only been a handful of these incidents, which we think have been inspired by a trend in America, but we are keen to stop them before they cause anyone else further distress."
