Kinnear (talking to the Chronicle): "It's always difficult for experienced players playing in reserve matches such as this, but Joey did very well.

"He's got plenty of character, so the past won't affect him. He just loves his football.

"Other people might have decided not to play, or to be somewhere else.

"Everybody's going to make something of it, because of Joey's natural temperament.

"You just need to get hold of people. Joey's a very sensible lad deep down.

"I know he's lost the plot in the past, but there won't be any need for that in such a game.

"People are probably waiting for him to do just that, but I think he's too bright to do that.

"It's about getting fitness into him, like Andy Carroll, and I'm delighted for both of them.

"It's nothing to do with performances because we know what he's capable of.
I was pleased with his performance. He (Carroll) did exceptionally well.

"He looks quite fit and sharp, and it was a good night. It's just a case of getting them back in training again.

"They've worked extremely hard in training.

"I'm delighted with the players in the side already, so it's not going to be easy for Joey to march back in, but he'll be involved one way or another.

"Spiderman is flying at the moment. He's trained very well with us, and he wants to be involved.

"There's every chance that he could play a part in the match at some stage. I've got him and Joey to consider, so the bench is looking very good.

"We've got a lot of confidence going into the derby.

"I've been involved in London derbies on numerous occasions, but the tell me they're nothing like this one."
