The fact that Bowyer is widely perceived as a racist doesn’t seem to faze JJ who is prepared to give him a chance and is looking forward to playing alongside him.
"Lee is a great player and I'm looking forward to playing with him," he told The Sun.
"I didn't know Jonathan Woodgate when he first came here either and now he is one of my better friends at Newcastle.
"I've spoken to Woody and he seems like a good lad and I'm delighted that Bowyer is coming to the club.
"He's a very good player and over the years he has proved himself. That bit of steel he has will be a great addition for Newcastle.
"Being in a winning and positive environment will help him."
